Community Action Board

As part of our role to liaise with the greater HIV/AIDS community in Seattle and the surrounding area, the Sociobehavioral Prevention Research Core has taken the lead in putting together a community action board (CAB) for the UW Center for AIDS and STD (CFAS). Dr. Freya Spielberg chaired the planning committee for the CAB and we expect that this group of key stakeholders in the community will serve in an advisory capacity, providing a community perspective on important issues in HIV/AIDS research.

Mission Statement

One of the missions of the Center for AIDS and STD (CFAS) is to promote knowledge of Center for AIDS and STD research activities and the importance of AIDS research through community outreach. The CFAS Community Action Board mission is to:

Encourage communication and build trustworthy collaborations between UW Center for AIDS and STD (CFAS) researchers and community members and community-based organizations to enhance local, national, and international prevention, treatment, and education activities. Specific goals of the Community Action Board will be to:
  • Make HIV/STD research more transparent and useful by engaging Community Action Board members to help develop improved and targeted information dissemination to the community.
  • Use Community Action Board activities to help Center for AIDS and STD affiliates and researchers learn about local community organizations, concerns, activities and opportunities for collaboration.
  • • Prioritize Center for AIDS and STD service to communities and identify important research topics to ensure community relevancy and collaboration.
